About invisible text watermarks
- Which characters are removed?
- Zero-width spaces/joiners (U+200B–200D), word joiners, BOM, bidirectional controls, variation selectors, Unicode tag characters (often used for steganographic watermarks) and invisible math operators. Unusual spaces (non-breaking, full-width, etc.) are normalized to a regular space.
- Why is this in my text?
- Some AI writing tools and watermarking schemes inject characters invisible to the eye, used to track or mark a text's origin. They can also creep in through copy-paste.
- Does it change the visible content?
- No. Only invisible characters are removed and spaces normalized — every visible character, punctuation mark and line break stays the same.
